“As a widow with 5 children, I am unable to feed and send my children to school because the country is hard” says Mrs Bukola as she recounted her story to members of the food bank team at the recently concluded SRFAP outreach at the food bank.

The Lagos Food Bank Initiative, in the bid to mitigate the recent economic challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy, partnered with Global Foodbanking Network on the 31st of August 2023, to provide food relief and personal care items  to vulnerable but resilient women living in low-cost communities.

The outreach which took place as a means to help ease the unfavorable effects of subsidy removal on the general market prices of food and relief items needed for daily consumption.

The Executive Director and Founder of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, encouraged everyone present to remain resilient in the face of economic challenges, in reassurance that in togetherness a hunger-free community can be achieved. He also showed appreciation to the volunteers who were present for the outreach, assisting in the packaging and distributing of the boxes of hope for their unwavering commitment towards being agents of positive change in our society.

The outreach was a remarkable success, with beneficiaries who expressed their delight in the light of the boxes of hope which they received through the outreach. Many took their time to appreciate and pray for the food bank team and our partner of the day for reaching out to them in such trying times and helping them with their daily needs.

The beneficiaries of the day also received clothing items from the Cloth Banking Nigeria program in addition to the food items. Also, a good number of them gave testimonies to the wonderful impact the food bank has made in their lives.
