The Lagos Food Bank Initiative embarked on another impact journey of nutritional intervention to serve vulnerable families in Ilasamaja community. On Saturday, 19th of November 2022, Lagos Food Bank Initiative served vulnerable households at Ilasamaja community through the ongoing One Billion Meals Campaign. Ilasamaja/Ilasa is a community of jovial people located in Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, South-West, Nigeria.

Majority of the population in Ilasa live in poverty and food insecurity. This outreach was able to cater for the nutritional needs of many households, thereby reducing the effect of malnutrition within the community.

On the day of the outreach, our team of active volunteers gathered at the food bank warehouse to load the food boxes and in the truck and to ensure that all the plans for the outreach was on track. The members of the community welcomed the team with enthusiasm as we arrived at the outreach venue and the outreach started in earnest. Before the distribution, some representatives of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative gave an awareness talk to the beneficiaries, and the offer of the Job Placement Program was announced, and many beneficiaries registered their skills and will be matched to different employers respectively. After arranging the food boxes and properly coordinating the beneficiaries, the distribution started as the people exchanged their beneficiary registration tags for the food boxes. Other relief items were also distributed during the outreach, including; juice boxes, gently used clothes, footwear, bags etc.

To conclude the outreach, the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude and prayed passionately for the increase and success of the organization. Overall, the outreach was a successful one as many household’s nutritional needs were met.
