The Lagos Food Bank Initiative, in collaboration with Paramount Africa, recently conducted a significant outreach program that focused on reaching out to children in low-cost primary schools through our school feeding (EDUFOOD) as well as providing essential food and relief items to vulnerable women in need through our Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). This endeavor was part of the Paramount Africa “Community Day” campaign, which aimed to create a positive impact within their immediate communities.

The outreach, held on Friday June 23rd 2023, at the EDUFOOD schools and the food bank warehouse with a significant turnout of beneficiaries. In the lead-up to the outreach, beneficiaries were reached out to and food vouchers were distributed accordingly to facilitate the process.

The program commenced with a dedicated team comprising representatives from Paramount Africa and enthusiastic volunteers from the Lagos Food Bank. They joined forces to collaborate on packaging school lunches and assembling boxes of hope, preparing them for distribution to beneficiaries. 

During his welcome speech, Dr. Michael Sunbola, the President of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, stressed the importance of prioritizing the well-being of school children and ensuring they have access to nutritious meals, as this plays a vital role in their growth, development, and overall educational outcomes. He further highlighted the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals and underscored the significance of providing relief items to address their needs.

Furthermore, Dr. Sunbola expressed his gratitude to Paramount Africa team for their invaluable contributions towards addressing food insecurity. He highlighted the collective responsibility of the community to come together and make a positive impact in the lives of those in need. By joining forces and extending support, he believed that they could work towards overcoming food insecurity and ensuring a brighter future for all.

The distribution of food and relief items was meticulously organized, thanks to the collective efforts of dedicated volunteers, the Paramount Africa team, and the Lagos Food Bank team. Working seamlessly together, they ensured that every child was served and that each beneficiary received their boxes of hope.

The country manager of Paramount Africa Dr. Bada Akintunde-Johnson expressed admiration for the relentless efforts and unwavering dedication of the Lagos Food Bank in improving the lives of vulnerable individuals. They acknowledged the significant impact that the contributions of the Lagos Food Bank have had in the fight against hunger and emphasized the importance of corporate bodies actively participating in giving back to their communities.
