The persistence of food insecurity has worsened in recent times as a result of the hike in general market prices of food items, affecting vulnerable families in vulnerable communities the most. To this effect, Lagos Food Bank Initiative reached out to vulnerable people living in Gbagada community, Lagos, by distributing food items and relief materials to families in deserving need of assistance through the TEFAP initiative.
The outreach which was held on the 29th of October 2023, saw a good number of beneficiaries catered for, bringing hope to those struggling with the economic situation in the country. Beneficiaries expressed their utmost gratitude for the distribution boxes, citing how challenging these past months have been in terms of affording sufficient nutritious food and other basic needs. A notable number of beneficiary testimonials from the Cloth Banking sector also revealed the amazing impact the food bank has created over the course of our service to humanity.
Addressing the people present for the outreach, the Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, expressed the growing need for privileged individuals and corporate organizations to actively join the fight against food insecurity amidst the obvious economic challenges faced across various underserved communities, highlighting this gesture as a necessity for a sustainable future for our society. Also in attendance and active participation was our partner for the day, Mr. Bajomo, having been an advocate and a friend of the organization over the years, supported the food bank to cater to those in dire need, and appreciated everyone committed to being positive agents of change in our society, encouraging them to remain resilient and unified with like-minds in order to achieve the desired result, which is a society free from food insecurity, malnutrition and poverty.
Also in attendance was a large number of food bank volunteers who participated selflessly in ensuring the outreach was not only a success, but also an exciting and memorable day for the beneficiaries of Gbagada community.
