Through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), Lagos Food Bank Initiative collaborated with the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in Nigeria to sustain fasting Muslim families living in Lekki Phase 1 community, Lagos, by providing them with nutritious food and non-food items to show encouragement and solidarity during the fasting period.
The outreach which took place in Lekki Phase 1 community on the 26th of March 2024, witnessed a good number of Muslim families catered for as part of an ongoing special Ramadan Iftar program.
“In supporting struggling Muslim families during the fasting period, we uphold the essence of community and compassion, ensuring that no one is left behind in their devotion to faith,” was the highlight of the Executive Director of the food bank’s speech, Dr. Michael Sunbola, just before the commencement of the distribution exercise.
The outreach was a timely one, given the rising cost of living in recent times, as many Muslim families living below the poverty line struggle to have sufficient nutritious meals for Iftar, a significant meal needed after a successful fasting period.
