Food insecurity has worsened in recent times due to the constant rise in the cost of living, affecting families residing in low-income communities the most. As a result of this, a collective action is required for the sustenance of these families and communities.
In response to the issue of food insecurity affecting families in low-income communities, Lagos Food Bank Initiative partnered with Dufil Prima Foods Ltd on the 27th of March 2024, to provide nutritious food items to resilient families in Oworonshoki community in Lagos, through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) of the food bank.
Taking place in the above-mentioned community, the partnership was a timely one, catering to a good number of women at a time when food assistance is most needed for sustaining families living below the poverty line.
Addressing attendees of the outreach program, the Managing Director of Dufil Prima Foods Ltd, Temitope Asiwaju, expressed his gratitude to the food bank for a well-coordinated distribution exercise, and appreciated the food bank volunteers for their unwavering dedication to community development engagements. He also stated their organization’s intent to stand in solidarity with struggling Nigerians during the ongoing economic difficulties and highlighted more viable partnerships to come with the food bank to support more families in underserved communities.
Also addressing those present, the Founder/Executive Director of the food bank, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the initiative of the partner organization to cater to struggling resilient families during trying times. He also advocated for more dynamic partnerships with corporate organizations to enable the food bank to extend its impact to more communities most deserving of assistance in a bid to curb food insecurity and malnutrition.
The outreach was a huge success with representatives of the partner organization fully participating in corporate volunteering activities alongside the ever-committed food bank volunteers who showed up in numbers to assist in the outreach activities.
