Another community intervention was held on the 20th of November, 2021 by the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, a non-profit and nutrition-oriented organization committed to fighting hunger, reducing food waste and solving the problem of malnutrition in the country. This time around, the target beneficiaries were the vulnerable families in Ilasamaja community, Isolo, an area which in recent years has experienced a lot of flooding, gun violence, hardship and general poverty.

The food bank truck and other members of the team arrived at the venue at 10:45 am on Saturday morning. “When Lagos Food Bank team came to identify people that needed aid in this community, I initially didn’t believe them because many people have come to this community to promise us food and other items but never came back. Today, when I was told that they are here, I started dancing because God has finally heard my prayers” said Durotimi, a mother of 5 children. Upon arrival at the venue, beneficiaries and other children in the community received the Lagos Food Bank team with a warm welcome. Due to the scorching heat of the sun, the Boxes of food and other essential items were arranged quickly in batches on the ground and registered beneficiaries who are majorly old-aged men and women, pregnant and lactating mothers were given the items and dismissed quickly.  Alhaja Salami, 69, said “I am so happy to receive these items from Lagos Food Bank. I opened one of the boxes just now and all the food items I need are inside.” “It’s my first time volunteering and from judging from the joy on the faces of the beneficiaries I can say that the Food bank’s boxes of hope indeed represents a form of relief and light to the hearts of these beneficiaries.”, said Zainab, a new volunteer.
