On Sunday 16th October 2022, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative celebrated the World Food Day sponsored by the One Billion Meals campaign in partnership with the Food Banking Regional Network and Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative by delivering hope, love and food to vulnerable women and children in Whlakoji community – Marina. Whlakoji community is a riverine community located in Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State. The community is majorly residential and the main occupation is fishing.

The day started with high energy as the volunteers arrived at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse to load the food boxes into the truck. The Lagos Food Bank team arrived at the CMS jetty at 10:40am. The members of the community excitedly welcomed the Lagos Food Bank team as volunteers placed the boxes of hope at the designated space and also coordinated the registered beneficiaries.

Mrs. Olajesu, one of the beneficiaries kept dancing and rendering prayers as she got her box of hope while all other beneficiaries showed their appreciation by praying for the organizations as they received their relief packages. The outreach was successful as the Lagos Food Bank Initiative is on a mission to reduce the prevalence of hunger and malnutrition within vulnerable communities.
