In the month of September, also known as Hunger Action Month, we are reminded of the global crisis of hunger, affecting countless children and adults worldwide. This month also serves as a rallying call to raise awareness and funds to combat this pressing issue.

In the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) embarked on a powerful mission to eliminate hunger in Nigeria’s mega city, Lagos state and its environs.

In commemoration of the Hunger Action Month this year, LFBI commenced a month-long Canned Food Drive at the food bank warehouse on the Friday, 1st September 2023, with the theme of the campaign being “TOGETHER WE CAN.”

This initiative embodied the belief that unity and collective action could bring about significant change in the fight against hunger. These items serve as lifelines for the most vulnerable individuals and families in the communities

The  food bank launched a campaign with the hashtags #TogetherWeCan and #OneCanOnePerson with a simple goal: to encourage everybody to take action by donating at least one canned food item. The  items ranged from canned milk to sardines to cerelac etc, as long as they were within their edibility date.

Lagos Food Bank is committed to bridging the gap between food surplus and food scarcity especially through strategic collaborations with local businesses, and corporate organizations, the food bank receives surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. These food items are then redistributed to those in need, creating a more sustainable and equitable food system for all.
