The Family Farming program of Lagos Food Bank Initiative empowered its beneficiaries on the 6th of December, 2023 with agricultural materials inclusive of poultry, snail and vegetable produce to begin establishment of their backyard farms. The goal of the outreach which was in partnership with Access Bank Plc was to promote food security and  self-sustenance through the empowerment of the program’s beneficiaries.

The President of LFBI, Dr Michael Sunbola stated that the “outreach would help make the lives of the beneficiaries economically viable as it would empower them to become food secure and financially independent.” The food bank will continue to encourage and promote self-sustainability and good nutrition to its beneficiaries through its urban farming program.

One of the recipients, Mrs Oluwatosin described the day as one of her happiest, she explained that as a petty trader, she earned a maximum of 5,000 per week especially with the fuel price increase. She appreciated the food bank and its partners for the empowerment of her poultry and vegetable farm. The beneficiaries of the day excitedly expressed their gratitude and sang praises of the food bank upon receiving their materials for their backyard farms.
