Lagos Food Bank will be implementing a SRFAP outreach in Oworoshoki community, Lagos on Saturday, 16th of September 2023 to cater to the immediate needs of vulnerable families with food and personal relief materials that will serve a family of  5 for 2-4 weeks in partnership with the Global Foodbanking Network (GFN)

This outreach aims to mitigate the high cost of living as part of the 3-month Subsidy Removal Food Assistance Programme (SRFAP) as this initiative significantly contributes to the achievement of SDG 2, which strives to establish a world without hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:

Oworonshoki is a suburb in Lagos State, Nigeria. The community is under the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State. The community connects the mainland and island areas of Lagos through the third mainland bridge. It is a land of commerce, culture, and tradition. The main source of income is fishing as Oworonshoki has a waterfront within its boundaries.

ABOUT OUR PARTNER:
The Global Food Banking Network (GFN) is an international nonprofit that works towards a hunger-free future in more than 40 countries by sustaining, uniting and strengthening food banks. They believe that food banks are an integral and viable solution in empowering the world to defeat hunger and change lives.

GOAL:

Our goal is to reach vulnerable women in low-cost communities by providing them with basic needs that will sustain a family of 5 for 2-4 weeks thereby reducing the effect of the subsidy removal.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To provide food assistance to vulnerable women within the community.
  • To provide food assistance to keep the inhabitants with low economic power from being hungry
  • To reduce the prevailing effects of inflation on food items on beneficiaries
