Our next Subsidy Removal Food Aid Program (SRFAP) outreach is scheduled to be held at Dustbin Estate, Ajegunle on Saturday, 30th September 2023 in partnership with Global Foodbanking Network that is set to cushion the effect of food-insecurity in low-income households.

About The Community:

Dustbin Estate is a slum of shanties erected on planks over heaps of refuse. Formerly a swamp, the waters were continuously filled with the city’s waste until now. Poor hygiene and sanitation, lack of infrastructure and general hazards of being next to a canal drain for waste and floodwaters in Ajegunle make it notorious for being inhabited by the most vulnerable and impoverished inhabitants of the city of Lagos. The current economic situation of the country is making it more difficult for the low-income households in this community to afford the needed food and nutritional intake.

About Our Partner:
The Global Food Banking Network (GFN) is an international nonprofit that works towards a hunger free future in more than 40 countries by sustaining, uniting and strengthening food banks. They believe that food banks are an integral and viable solution in empowering the world to defeat hunger and change lives.

The Subsidy Removal Food Aid Program is thus a timely intervention in Ajegunle community as it would reduce the burden of food insecurity in the indigent households.

Goals:
To bring relief to the indigent households in Dustbin Estate, Ajegunle who are being affected by the rising cost of food by providing them with staple food and other relief items.

Objectives:

  • To reduce the burden created by the hike in food prices by donating healthy and nutritious food products to vulnerable households.

  • To encourage proper feeding habits and reduce the crime rate and health conditions caused by food insufficiency.
