In preparation for the outreach, on the 13th of December 2022, the inspection team of LFBI visited Makoko community for inspection and meeting with the community stakeholders, after which the team explored the community to identify the vulnerable people who were given beneficiary tags which would be exchanged for the food boxes and other relief items.
Makoko is a large low-income community with half the population on water and half on land across the 3rd Mainland Bridge located on the coast of mainland Lagos.
On Saturday, 17th December 2022 Volunteers converged at the Lagos Food Bank operations office in Mangoro/Ikeja at 9:00am to load the items for donation into the truck and shortly after, the LFBI fleet of vehicles arrived at Makoko community to the excited crowd of beneficiaries and were shortly joined by the team from Bella Disu Foundation and Founder; Mrs Belinda Disu who also expressed their joy to be able to give back to the vulnerable members of the society.
The boxes of hope with the other relief items were offloaded and arranged and the beneficiaries were properly coordinated to receive the donated items. The outreach will improve the feeding pattern by providing access to healthy meals through food donation to the people that need it. Other relief items such as juice boxes, clothing, bags, foot wears and toys for children were also distributed during the outreach.
The beneficiaries expressed their profound appreciation to Lagos Food Bank and Bella Disu Foundation for all the donated items and prayed for the success of the organizations.
