On February 13, 2026, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) welcomed students and staff of Westerfield College, Lagos, to its warehouse for a meaningful day of learning and civic engagement. The visit formed part of activities marking LFBI’s 10th Anniversary celebration.
Arriving in the early hours of the day, the group stepped into an immersive experience designed to deepen their understanding of food insecurity and community impact. The day began with a warm reception and donation from the students and staff, setting the tone for active participation.
Participants engaged in insightful presentations delivered by select team members, including an overview of LFBI’s work and a session on civic responsibility. A lively question-and-answer segment followed, with students exploring topics around hunger, nutrition, and the role young people can play in strengthening their communities.
Dr. Michael Sunbola, Founder and Executive Director of LFBI, addressed the group, applauding their enthusiasm and emphasizing how early exposure to service nurtures empathy, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to social impact. The students also watched a special video premiere highlighting LFBI’s programs and milestones over the past decade.
Guided tours of the Food Bank’s facility gave the students a better understanding of the system and coordination behind every food box distributed and other initiatives. The experience continued where they joined volunteers in packaging nutritious food boxes for vulnerable families, gaining practical insight into the teamwork that drives the organization’s mission.
The visit concluded with group photographs, reflections, and heartfelt testimonials from students who shared a renewed appreciation for the realities of food insecurity and the power of collective action.
This engagement reflects how civic education and service can come together to inspire meaningful change. As LFBI marks ten years of impact, initiatives like this reaffirm its commitment to nurturing compassionate, socially responsible young leaders while advancing the fight against hunger.
We sincerely appreciate Westerfield College for being part of this milestone celebration and for bringing vibrant energy to the anniversary week.
