Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Who can join the Diaspora Community?
A: Anyone living outside Nigeria who wishes to stay connected, support, or learn more about the Lagos Food Bank Initiative is welcome.
What are the benefits of joining the diaspora community?
A: Joining the diaspora community allows you to stay connected while directly supporting the food bank’s mission—through volunteering, fundraising, sharing expertise, and building networks that strengthen food security and community impact back home.
Q: Do I have to donate to be part of the community?
A: While donations are always appreciated, there are many other ways to get involved; from volunteering your skills, fundraising, sharing our stories, to helping spread the word.
Q: How often will I hear from you?
A: We’ll send occasional newsletters and updates so you stay connected with the activities of the food bank.
Q: What kind of updates will I receive?
A: You’ll hear about our impact stories, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways the diaspora community is making a difference.
Q: Can I volunteer remotely, even from outside Nigeria?

Q: How is my information used?
A: Your details are kept safe and used only to share updates and opportunities from the Lagos Food Bank in line with our data protection policy.

Q: What is expected of me as a diasporan volunteer?
A: As a diasporan volunteer, you might share your professional skills, help spread awareness, support fundraising, or volunteer virtually on projects. Volunteers choose to give their time, others their resources, and many do both. What matters most is your willingness to stay connected and contribute in whatever way works best for you.
Q: Do I need to travel to Nigeria to volunteer?
A: Not at all. While you’re always welcome to join us in person, diaspora volunteering is done remotely — from sharing skills to supporting campaigns online.
Q: Can I suggest ideas or start initiatives from abroad?
A: Yes! We value creativity and fresh ideas. Many of our best projects have come from volunteers who saw new ways to connect the diaspora with our mission.
Q: How will I know the impact of my contribution?
A: We’ll keep you updated through newsletters, stories, and reports that show exactly how your time, skills, or resources are making a difference in the lives of vulnerable families.
Q: Will I get any reference or certificates for participating or volunteering from abroad?
A. This is dependent on your contributions to the foodbank. Please click here to read about our certificates and references.
