February 14, 2025—a day when people express love and affection for one another—was made even more meaningful as the Lagos Food Bank Initiative partnered with Mastercard for a special EDUFOOD outreach. This initiative aimed to provide school meals to children in low-cost schools, helping them stay focused and engaged in their studies. The Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, emphasized Mastercard’s vital role in bridging the education gap, ensuring that every child has access to quality education and opportunities for a brighter future.

The outreach provided two nutritious meals—breakfast and lunch—ensuring that the children received consistent nourishment throughout their day in school. A team of dedicated volunteers had already served breakfast to the children just after they left the assembly ground, but the highlight of the day came when the partners served lunch. With enthusiasm, they handed out hearty meals and refreshing fruit drinks, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The children’s excitement was infectious as they welcomed the partners with smiles and cheers, reciprocating the energy in a heartwarming exchange.

A head teacher in one of the schools highlighted the transformative impact of initiatives providing meals, which would encourage more parents to enroll their children in school. Jadesola Oyelehin, a marketing specialist at Mastercard, emphasized that “education is priceless.” She stated that Mastercard is dedicated to making education accessible for every child, embodying their “Priceless” philosophy. Together, these efforts pave the way for a brighter future for students and their families.

Overall, this outreach not only nourished the children’s bodies but also reinforced the importance of community involvement in education. Through initiatives like EDUFOOD, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative and Mastercard are making significant strides to ensure that no child goes hungry, empowering them to thrive academically and build a better tomorrow.
