On 30 May 2026, Ekulo Group of Companies partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) to carry out its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity in commemoration of World Hunger Day 2026. The outreach featured two of LFBI’s programs: the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Educational Enhancement Intervention for Food Insecure Students (EDUFOOD), both of which contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
The outreach took place in the Ajegunle community, Agege, Lagos, bringing together women and children from low-income households for a day of support, engagement, and nourishment.
The event commenced with the warm reception of members of the Ekulo Group of Companies team, including senior executives and top officers of the company, at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Ikeja. Without much ado, members of the Ekulo Group rolled up their sleeves and actively participated in the sorting and packaging of food items that would later be distributed within the community.
Upon arriving at the outreach venue, where women and children had gathered in anticipation, the team was greeted with excitement from the children. The warm welcome sparked meaningful interactions between the Ekulo team and the beneficiaries, creating an atmosphere of joy and connection.
The Founder/Executive Director of LFBI, Dr. Michael Sunbola, addressed attendees of the outreach just before the commencement of the distribution activities, appreciating the partners for their timely collaboration and also the volunteers for their unwavering dedication to community-centered projects. He emphasized the importance of leveraging partnerships in addressing hunger and malnutrition as a sustainable pathway to building healthier and more resilient communities.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Joseph Okonkwo, General Manager of Ekulo International Limited, said, ” It is fascinating to learn that Lagos Food Bank not only provides food support but also essential items such as clothing and hygiene products that can improve the quality of life of families in need. Lagos Food Bank has connected us to women in the community, and we hope to provide more support going forward,
“It is really commendable,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Head of Retail, Mr. Korede, expressed his admiration for the work of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative and expressed his appreciation to everyone present, especially the volunteers, noting that they had begun the tremendous work from the Food Bank warehouse and maintained the same positive energy throughout the outreach, he said.
Following the remarks, children received food packs and a bag of products donated by Ekulo Group of Companies. The food support not only provided immediate nourishment but also reinforced the message that every child is valued and deserves the opportunity to thrive.
The outreach continued with the distribution of food boxes to women through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), helping to ease food insecurity and provide relief to households facing food access challenges within the community.
Through collaborative efforts such as this, organizations continue to contribute meaningfully towards building a future where every individual has access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.
