When Abdullahi arrived at the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, he was accompanied by his mother and aunt, who had recognised signs of malnutrition in the young boy.

Having heard about NUMEPLAN, his aunt brought him to the Food Bank for prompt intervention, determined to protect his health and future.

The Food Bank’s nutrition team soon identified a critical gap: knowledge. Abdullahi’s mother and aunt received counselling and practical education on maternal and infant nutrition, alongside supplementary food assistance to support his recovery.

The results were remarkable.

In just six weeks, Abdullahi had recovered enough to be discharged from the programme. The team continued follow-up to reinforce healthy practices and monitor his catch-up growth.

Abdullahi’s story shows that tackling childhood malnutrition takes more than food. Timely intervention, the right knowledge and sustained support can change a child’s story.
