For many families, access to life-saving nutrition is defined by location. With the Lagos Food Bank Initiative based in Lagos, countless malnourished children outside the state remain out of reach of the care provided through the NUMEPLAN Program. But for one mother, distance was not going to be a barrier, it was a challenge she refused to accept.
Living in Ifo, Ogun State, the mother of Sekinat and Muhab first learned of her twins’ fragile condition during a visit to a Primary Health Centre in Lagos. At just four months old, Muhab weighed 2.5kg and Sekinat 3.05kg, both too weak to sit, both in urgent need of care.
Faced with this reality, she made a decision that would change their lives. She crossed state lines and found her way to the Food Bank warehouse, determined to give her children a fighting chance. There, they were assessed, enrolled, and placed on a path to recovery.
What followed was four months of unwavering commitment. Every two weeks, she showed up, no matter the distance. She embraced nutrition education, received counseling and food assistance, and ensured her children got the support they needed. Her journey was not easy, but her determination never wavered.
Today, her courage tells a different story. At nine months, Muhab now weighs 5.6kg and Sekinat 6.2kg. They can sit on their own, stronger, healthier, and steadily moving toward a better future. Her story is a powerful reminder that a mother’s love knows no boundaries, and that with the right support, even the most vulnerable lives can be transformed.
