On April 16, 2026, something meaningful unfolded at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Ikeja. Prudential Zenith Life Insurance joined hands with Lagos Food Bank Initiative under the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to support families facing food insecurity as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to empower and uplift communities within their environment of operation.

The day began with a guided tour of the Lagos Food Bank warehouse facility, where the Prudential Zenith team showed genuine interest as they proceeded, asking questions and seeking to understand the scale and structure of operations. Their questions were met with thoughtful insights from the Executive Director, Dr. Michael Sunbola, who shed light on both the impact and the challenges of the organization.

One reality stood out: while similar programs in other parts of the world reach families monthly, limited resources mean some beneficiaries here receive support less than thrice a year. It was a striking reminder that the need far outweighs current capacity; and that stronger partnerships and increased donations are essential to bridge the gap.

Another challenge discussed was the hidden cost of access. The Lagos Food Bank is pushing to ensure beneficiaries receive food at no cost at all, including transportation. While some individual partners have stepped in to cover this, there is a growing call for more corporate organizations to support this critical aspect.

But the day wasn’t just about discussions. The Prudential Zenith team rolled up their sleeves, actively participating in packaging food boxes, each one carefully prepared to feed a family of five for at least two weeks. What could have been a simple corporate social responsibility activity quickly turned into something deeper, with moments of laughter, teamwork, and shared purpose filling the space.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Human Resources at Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Doyinsola Atanda-Obalakun, expressed appreciation to her team, emphasizing their commitment to making a real difference and the importance of continuing such efforts, especially at a time when many Nigerians need support.

For the beneficiaries, the impact was immediate and heartfelt. Gratitude showed in their smiles, their words, and the quiet relief that came with knowing their families would have meals in the days ahead.

It was, in every sense, a day of impact: one that highlighted both the power of partnership and the urgent need to do even more.
