“The greatest form of empowerment is giving people the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families.”
This vision came to life as the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI), with the support of Olymptrade, launched the second phase outreach under the Family Farming program, extending sustainable agricultural support to vulnerable households in the Agege community. Building on the success of the first phase, the outreach reaffirmed a shared commitment to addressing hunger not only through immediate food relief, but also through lasting livelihood solutions.
On July 4, 2026, beneficiaries gathered in the Agege community to receive carefully assembled backyard farming starter kits designed to help families grow their own food and strengthen household resilience. Through the Family Farming initiative, beneficiaries received vegetable seeds, chicks, snails, cages, feed, feeders, and multivitamins, equipping them with the resources needed to establish backyard farms for household consumption and income generation.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement and optimism as beneficiaries received the tools needed to begin or expand their farming activities. Beyond the distribution of agricultural inputs, the outreach inspired renewed confidence that sustainable interventions can empower families to build more secure and independent futures despite prevailing economic challenges.
Speaking during the outreach, Dr. Michael Sunbola, Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, expressed profound appreciation to Olymptrade for its continued partnership and commitment to improving food security through sustainable interventions. He noted that while emergency food assistance remains essential, empowering families with the resources to produce their own food creates a lasting pathway toward resilience, self-reliance, and improved livelihoods. He encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by nurturing their backyard farms and using the resources provided to strengthen their households and communities.
For many beneficiaries, the farming starter kits represented much more than agricultural supplies. They symbolized an opportunity to feed their families with dignity, reduce household food costs, and create additional sources of income. More importantly, they restored hope that, with the right support and determination, families can move beyond dependency towards lasting self-sufficiency.
This second phase of the Olymptrade-Lagos Food Bank partnership reflects a shared vision of tackling hunger through sustainable, community-driven solutions. By investing in family farming, both organizations are helping vulnerable households cultivate not only crops and livestock, but also resilience, dignity, and the confidence to build a more food-secure future. Through partnerships like this, the seeds of empowerment planted today will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
