“This is our second time partnering with the Lagos Food Bank to feed the needy and I must say it is always a memorable experience for us. What the Lagos Food Bank does to make communities better is simply amazing and I commend them, as well as the volunteers that show up for every outreach to support the less privileged in our society. I urge every corporate organization to key into the vision of the food bank, especially as we approach the season of joy and love. No sacrifice is too little to put a smile on faces of people who are struggling with the economic condition of this country,” stated by the President of The PowerWoman Network, Carol Ariyibi, during the partnership with Lagos Food Bank Initiative at Ebute-Metta Community in Lagos.
Taking place on the 7th of December 2024, the purpose of this collaboration was to initiate an impactful CSR activity to touch the lives of those most in need of immediate food relief, and the food bank once again was the best fit to execute this community development intervention.
In addressing attendees of the outreach; distinguished team members from the partner organization, volunteers and team members from the food bank, the Founder/Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the partners of the day for yet another successful partnership to nourish communities amidst the economic hardship faced by many living below the poverty line. He also highlighted the impact of providing food security to food insecure women and households as a beacon of hope in underserved communities, noting the positive outcomes of sustenance, resilience, good health and unity, that such a project promotes. He rounded up his speech by appreciating the volunteers for their unwavering commitment to being agents of positive change as they showed up in numbers to ensure a seamless distribution process.
In an interview with a beneficiary of the distribution, Mrs. Chika Anyanwu from Ebute-Metta community said, “I am very grateful for this support I have received today to feed my children, and I am sure every other woman here today receiving this food box feels the same way. As a visually impaired mother, things have not been the same since I lost my sight, and my husband doesn’t do much to support us anymore. I just thank God for this kind of organization and I pray God will continue to bless you and your partners for caring and showing love to us, without expecting anything in return.”
In light of the obvious economic struggles many face nationwide, Lagos Food Bank ensures its commitment to ending hunger one community at a time, and partnerships such as this remain pivotal in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2; Zero Hunger.
