“On behalf of the women here with me today I want to thank the Lagos Food Bank for coming to our rescue once again. Although this is my first time collecting food here, I heard they do distribute food items often, and today I am happy that it is my turn. These food items I have received will be very helpful for me and my family, especially as a widow with four children during such challenging times that people have to come out to protest against the hardship we are all facing in the country. I pray God keeps blessing the food bank so that they can keep looking after those in need,” said Mrs. Mary Ayomide, a beneficiary of the hunger relief outreach that took place on the 2nd of August, 2024, at the food bank warehouse in Lagos, where women from Alimosho LGA were invited to receive staple food items for their sustenance during the nationwide protest against the recent economic situation that has led to most households facing hardship.

The timely distribution, organized by the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, was geared towards helping households whose means of livelihood has been greatly affected by the restrictions imposed due to the national protest against hardship, which has worsened the state of food insecurity nationwide.

Addressing the food bank team, volunteers and beneficiaries present for the outreach, the Assistant to the Executive Director, Oluwabusiolami Adedara, encouraged the women to remain resilient in the face of challenges, assuring them of the food bank’s unwavering dedication to fighting food insecurity in low-cost communities, especially during times of unrest and uncertainties.

The Lagos Food Bank Initiative remains committed to being a frontline agency in combating hunger, malnutrition and poverty through strategic programs to champion sustainable food security, nutrition, and empowerment, transforming communities and fostering equitable access to food resources throughout Nigeria.
