“We are very happy to partner with Lagos Food Bank Initiative to execute our school project and reach out to needy families from underserved communities,” stated Rasheed, a Master’s Degree student in Pan Atlantic University, during a partnership that saw the distribution of staple foods, decent clothing and personal care items to beneficiaries of the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), an initiative aimed at providing immediate relief to families grappling with food insecurity.

Taking place at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, on the 30th of November 2024, the timely partnership between Lagos Food Bank Initiative and Project Food Share proved impactful as the beneficiaries expressed their heartwarming appreciation to the food bank and their partners for the invaluable support to foster resilience and improve general well-being.

“Words can’t express the way I feel towards the assistance I have received today. I never expected to receive so much when I was called to come and collect food. I want to thank those behind this program and I pray that you all will never lack anything good life for deciding to support people who are struggling with daily needs.” Those were the words of a beneficiary from Oshodi community, Mrs. Mercy Akpan.

Commencing with a discussion about food insecurity and food waste, the Project Food Share team provided valuable information on the current state of food insecurity in the nation and highlighted ways this issue can be addressed through community involvement.

A notable highlight of the program was the commitment of food bank volunteers who showed up in numbers to demonstrate their support for community development projects, reaffirming their unwavering dedication to being agents of positive change in our society.
