On the 29th of May, 2025, an impactful outreach was held at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, where the popular chef, Ifys’ Kitchen, joined the Food Bank team and their volunteers in supporting women from low-income households with food relief through the Temporary Food Assistance Program.

The memorable day kicked off with a heartwarming welcome of the partner of the day by the Food Bank team and volunteers, appreciating the arrival of the partner and her team. A brief tour of the Food Bank facility followed shortly after, with a presentation on the Food Bank’s programs for better understanding of their service to humanity.

The partner of the day participated in the packaging of the food boxes, showing compassion, commitment and kindness, especially when addressing the beneficiaries just after they received their “boxes of love,” as it is fondly called by the volunteers of the Food Bank. Moved by the spirit of their volunteerism, Ifys’ Kitchen like she is popularly known, expressed her excitement at seeing a good number of young people show up regardless of their busy schedules to support community-driven initiatives such as this. She encouraged them to keep the fire burning and appreciated the Food Bank for the partnership and opportunity to give back to society.

In his address to attendees of the outreach, the Founder and Executive Director of the Food Bank, Dr. Michael Sunbola, expressed a heartfelt gratitude to the partner of the day for supporting families in underserved communities, which proved to be a beacon of hope for those facing food insecurity in the nation. In recognizing the important work volunteers do in the cause of the Food Bank’s mission to create a hunger-free society for all, he appreciated their unwavering dedication to building stronger and healthier communities and warmly welcomed the new volunteers joining an outreach for the first time.

The Lagos Food Bank Initiative remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing food insecurity and malnutrition affecting the most vulnerable in the society, and leveraging on the “give back to society” initiative is one of the ways the Food Bank ensures underserved communities get the nutritional support they deserve.
