6th of May was a memorable day for vulnerable households living in the heart of Makoko community as HP (Hewlett Packard) and Lagos Food Bank Initiative collaborated to address food insecurity affecting low-income families to foster resilience and mitigate the effects of high living costs nationwide.

The impactful day kicked off with the partner organization, HP, engaging in the packaging of the food boxes at the Lagos Food Bank Initiative in Mangoro, Ikeja, before setting out to the outreach venue in Makoko community to deliver hope to people most in need of care and support during these economically trying times.

Before going into the distribution activity proper, a representative of HP, Miss Chizoba, sensitized attendees of the outreach about the services and values of her organization, emphasizing the need to help humanity as one of the pillars of their value system. She highlighted the initiative to support families as an act of volunteering, and encouraged volunteers present to keep up the spirit of volunteerism.

Also addressing attendees of the outreach, the Executive Director/Founder of the Food Bank, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the partner of the day for their timely partnership and highlighted their journey of collaboration with the Food Bank to impact lives which started a year ago, having supported young children through the school feeding program. He also welcomed warmly  the new volunteers present and applauded the old timers for their unwavering support towards community-driven initiatives.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and fulfillment evident in the faces of the beneficiaries as they danced and sang with their food boxes upon receiving and leaving the outreach venue to their respective homes.

The partnership to support vulnerable families was a huge success, recording a good number of volunteers, most of which were young people, who selflessly showed their passion for helping the needy and being positive change-makers in today’s society.

The Lagos Food Bank Initiative remains a beacon of hope to underserved communities, and partnerships like this make their vision of a hunger-free society for all a step closer to actualization.
