As a nonprofit organization committed to championing sustainable food security, Lagos Food Bank Initiative will partner with Olam Agri on Wednesday, 16th of October 2024, in celebration of World Food Day, to nourish women and families with nutritious food items and personal care materials in Ajegunle and Makoko Communities through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16th, marking the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945. The day highlights the importance of global food security, bringing attention to the ongoing challenges of hunger, malnutrition, and sustainable agriculture. It serves as a call to action for governments, organizations, and individuals to work together to create a world where everyone has access to nutritious food.
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:
Makoko is an informal settlement across the 3rd Mainland Bridge located on the coast of mainland Lagos. A third of the community is built on stilts along the lagoon and the rest is on the land. The waterfront part of the community is largely harbored by the Egun people who migrated from Badagry and Republic of Benin and whose main occupation is fishing.
About The Community:
Ijora-Badia is one of Lagos’ under-serviced but high density areas. Many early inhabitants of Ijora-Badia are resettlers from Oluwole Village, when the village was acquired by the government for the construction of the National Theatre.
ABOUT OUR PARTNER:
Olam Agri is established as a market leading and differentiated food, feed and fiber global agri-business with unique focus on high-growth emerging markets with operations across grains and oilseeds, edible oils, animal feed and protein, rice, specialty grains and seeds, cotton, wood, rubber, commodity financial services and risk management.
