On Saturday 22nd of March, 2025, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative in partnership with GloWorld will reach out to vulnerable women living in Bariga Community, Lagos, with staple foods, decent clothing and relief materials through its Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
This impactful partnership is set to bridge the hunger gap affecting households living below the poverty line in Bariga community, thereby fostering resilience and general well being to improve national development.
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Bariga is a district and suburb in Lagos State, Nigeria. It was formerly under Somolu local government area of Lagos State but in 2013 it was upgraded by the State government as a Local Council Development Area. The local government secretariat is located at 19, Bawala street, Bariga. Arguably defined by its natural style as quick to fit. Bariga community is surrounded by water from the coastal lines along the Third Mainland Bridge, and is neighbour to Gbagada and Shomolu. It is the location of the oldest secondary school in Nigeria.

GOAL:
This outreach is dedicated to supporting vulnerable women in the Bariga community by easing the burden of food insecurity. Through the provision of nutritious staple foods, decent clothing, and essential personal care items, we aim to bring comfort and relief, ensuring they have the sustenance they need for the coming weeks.
OBJECTIVES:
- To address food insecurity affecting vulnerable families in Bariga community.
- To improve the health of the older population through proper feeding and to encourage healthy diet.
- To reduce the effects of hunger by providing nutritious food and relief materials to vulnerable households to promote healthy living.
