In celebration of the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) 50th anniversary, Africa Re will partner with Lagos Food Bank Initiative on the 3rd of March, 2026, to support women and their families in Surulere community through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) with staple foods and personal care items to improve their access to nutrition for upliftment and general well being.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:

Surulere, located on the Lagos Mainland, is a vibrant, centrally located, and historic residential/commercial hub known as the “Sports City” of Nigeria, home to the National and Teslim Balogun Stadia. Meaning “Patience is Rewarding” in Yoruba, it offers a mix of middle-class housing, active nightlife, and easy access to Lagos Island.

The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) is the leading pan-African reinsurance company and the largest reinsurer in Africa in terms of net reinsurance written premiums. It was set up by 36 African states in 1976, following a recommendation of the African Development Bank (AfDB), to develop the insurance and reinsurance industry in Africa through increased underwriting and retention capacities, and to support the economic development of the continent.

GOAL:

To ensure that women and their families in Surulere have access to nutritious meals.

OBJECTIVES:

Provide staple foods capable of lasting a family of 4 to 5 for 2 to 3 weeks.

Promote equitable access to nutrition in Surulere community.
