We are delighted to announce that on Saturday 26th of August 2023, Lagos Food Bank
Initiative will be hosting its annual Walkathon Fundraiser at TBS Cricket Field, Onikan, Lagos
Island, by 7am prompt.
This event is a 14-kilometre walk and is themed; “Feed the Future 5.0.” The purpose of the walk is to raise funds needed to create more impact through our school-feeding initiative; Education Enhancement intervention for Food Insecure Students (EDUFOOD).
Our journey so far..
- Our EDUFOOD program is presently feeding over 3600 students through 25 schools
- Students are fed three times in a week; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Our volunteers have contributed over 3,950 volunteering hours.
- We have provided over 60,000 meals to food-insecure students so far
- We have also received sponsorship/donations from over 10 brands since inception
Walkathon Route:
The charity walk will start at Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Field, to Ikoyi through Bourdillon Road to Ikoyi Link Bridge and back to Tafawa Balewa Square to mark the end of the event.
Objectives:
- We are walking to raise awareness about the menace of hunger and malnutrition among school children in low-cost communities.
- We are walking because we want to raise more funds to up-scale our school feeding program
- We are walking to increase school attendance through food security in low-cost schools.
- We are walking to reduce the increasing rate of dropouts, develop the student’s health and increase the student’s ability to focus and comprehend in class.
- We are walking to raise awareness about the importance of school feeding programs
for low-cost secondary and primary schools.
The walk promises to be impactful with side attractions like Music, Dance, Comedy, Celebrity Appearances and Games, with a great opportunity for volunteers and guests to network and have maximum fun while raising funds for our EDUFOOD project.
