Because no child should ever have to learn on an empty stomach, Lagos Food Bank Initiative, in partnership with JTA Foundation, reached out to school children in Dopemu and Agege community through the school feeding program #edufood. The Education Enhancement Intervention for Food-insecure Students (EDUFOOD) program provided nutritious meals to school children while also spreading joy, energy, and a renewed sense of hope.
The JTA Foundation, an NGO dedicated to supporting education for underprivileged children—were present at the outreach with their volunteers, joined efforts with the Lagos Food Bank team and volunteers to seamlessly coordinate the distribution of cooked meals. Together, both teams ensured that the children not only received nourishing meals but also felt seen, valued, and celebrated.
From the moment the meals arrived, the excitement on the faces of the pupils was undeniable. Laughter, cheerful chatter, and wide smiles filled the air as volunteers served plates of prepared food. For many of the children, this was more than just a meal—it was a moment of care and hope.
The outreach also offered an opportunity for the JTA Foundation to interact directly with the school children. A Teacher shared that the children were noticeably more focused and energetic in class due to the meals provided to them.
Omobolanle Akintunde, a representative of the JTA Foundation in her testimonial expressed deep joy at witnessing the impact of the outreach, she said, “This outreach was more than just a feeding program—it was a moment of hope and shows a collaborative effort in breaking the cycle of hunger and unlocking the potential within every child.
As Lagos Food Bank Initiative continues to expand its school feeding program, we express our gratitude to partners like JTA Foundation who share in our vision. Together, we are not just filling plates—we are feeding futures, building brighter classrooms, and igniting hope, one child at a time.
