On the 16th of October 2021, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative implemented an outreach in its warehouse premises in celebration of World Food Day. According to the Communications Officer of the organization, Favour Latunde-Dada, while addressing the volunteers present at the outreach, the World Food Day is a special celebration for Non-governmental organizations who are actively involved in providing food relief to the most vulnerable around the world and an awareness for those who suffer from hunger.
The distribution commenced at 11:30am with over 150 volunteers present. Also present at the outreach were members of the media team from Punch Newspapers, Cable news and Legit.ng who attended to cover the event. The boxes of hope which contain food items and other boxes of non-food items were arranged & distributed to the registered beneficiaries. A flood of needy people kept trooping into the foodbank premises. However, the crowd control unit was able to manage the situation and all beneficiaries including those who were not registered prior to the event received food and relief items. The vulnerable women and widows of Agege community showered their prayers and blessings on the organization for always remembering and reaching out to their families in these trying times.
