Over 4.3% of Nigerians are Unemployed, with Women and Youth Most Affected – NBS

For four years, Miss Ajagbe was without a job, and her search for one proved abortive. This led to her living poorly, without the means to take care of herself or her loved ones.

She heard about the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) from a close family member and decided to follow her to the Family Farming program, which is aimed at empowering vulnerable women and youth in underserved communities through urban backyard farming (agriculture). While in the program, Miss Ajagbe witnessed the training the participants received, including the resources they were given to start their own backyard farms. Inspired by this, she reached out to the LFBI team to share her plight.

After sharing her unemployment struggles, Miss Ajagbe was invited for an assessment based on her qualifications. Following the assessment, the LFBI team recognized her as a skilled worker and enrolled her in the Job Placement program, where she was trained in soft skills such as critical thinking and communication. A CV was also created for her, and she received coaching on various interview scenarios and the best approaches to take.

Within a few weeks of registering Miss Ajagbe in the Job Placement program, the LFBI team successfully secured her a well-paying job as a cook at a reputable establishment.

Six months after that successful intervention, the LFBI team reached out to Miss Ajagbe to check on her progress in her new job and overall life advancement. She was happy to share that everything was going well, and she could now afford to support herself and her family.

The Lagos Food Bank Initiative is a good place; they are helping the less-privileged. They helped me get a job, and I’m grateful.” — Miss Ajagbe Rashidat
