On Friday, March 28, 2025, Lagos Food Bank Initiative, in collaboration with Malta Guinness, will extend a lifeline to vulnerable women in Iwaya Community, Lagos. Through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), we will provide essential staple foods, decent clothing, and vital relief materials to those in need.
This powerful partnership is dedicated to narrowing the hunger gap for households living below the poverty line, fostering resilience, and enhancing overall well-being—contributing to a stronger, more developed nation.
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:
Iwaya, a community in Lagos, Nigeria, is known as a slum area facing challenges like high disease prevalence and abandoned development projects, with community leaders advocating for the completion of projects like roads, boreholes, and schools. Iwaya is located in the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which was carved out of the Lagos Mainland Local Government Area. It is bounded by the Lagos Lagoon, Makoko (another slum), and the University of Lagos. The community is considered a slum area, facing challenges common in such areas.

GOAL:
This outreach is dedicated to supporting vulnerable women in the Iwaya community by easing the burden of food insecurity. Through the provision of nutritious staple foods, decent clothing, and essential personal care items, we aim to bring comfort and relief, ensuring they have the sustenance they need for the coming weeks.
OBJECTIVES:
- To address food insecurity affecting vulnerable families living in Iwaya community.
- To improve the health of the older population through proper feeding and to encourage healthy diet.
- To reduce the effects of hunger by providing nutritious food and relief materials to vulnerable households to promote healthy living.
