Lagos Food Bank Initiative recognizes the critical link between nutrition and education. Children who receive adequate nutrition are more likely to attend and stay in school, improving their cognitive abilities and overall well-being.

In celebration of International School Meals Day on March 14, 2025, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, in collaboration with Emerald’s Community Foundation, reached out to school children in Agege community through the Education Enhancement Intervention for Food Insecure Students (EDUFOOD) program. Providing them with nutritious meals and essential educational materials.

By combining nutrition and education, this outreach tackled food insecurity and contributed to better school attendance, enhanced cognitive development, and financial relief for parents.

On arrival at the Food bank warehouse, team members of the Emerald’s Community Foundation were warmly received by team members and dedicated volunteers of the Food Bank.  The outreach began with a facility tour of the Lagos Food Bank, where team members from the Emerald’s Community Foundation explored the organization’s facility learning more about our operations and efforts in combating hunger. Their lead volunteer expressed gratitude on behalf of the foundation’s founder for the impactful work being done. Also, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind due to hunger or lack of resources.

At the schools, volunteers from both organizations engaged the children, distributed meals, school supplies, including bags, notebooks, pencils, and pens, to enhance their learning experience. The children’s eyes lit up with joy, beaming with gratitude.

A representative of the Emerald’s Community Foundation, in her testimonial said;

“We are honored to partner with Lagos Food Bank to bring hope and nourishment to these school children. Seeing their smiles as they received meals and other materials reminds us why these initiatives matter. We look forward to more partnerships that uplift children and provide them with the resources they need to thrive.”

The outreach was a great success, providing both nourishment and educational support to children in need. This collaboration highlights the power of partnerships in driving positive change and creating a lasting impact.

At Lagos Food Bank, we remain committed to ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals and quality education.
