On 20th May 2026, the Lagos Food Bank, in collaboration with Zayith Yogurt, executed a school feeding outreach in Agege, Lagos, through the Education Enhancement Intervention for Food Insecure Students (EDUFOOD). The intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to improve child nutrition, with the broader aim of enhancing school attendance and learning outcomes among children in low-cost schools.

The outreach also marked Zayith Yogurt’s 8th anniversary celebration. In a demonstration of her commitment to giving back to the community, the company partnered with Lagos Food Bank to support food-insecure children with nutritious meals during school hours.

During the visit to the schools, key observations were made regarding the learning environment, which was not fully conducive to optimal learning. This reflects a common reality in many low-cost schools supported under the EDUFOOD program. According to Rilwan Oyedele, the Nutrition Program Officer at Lagos Food Bank, these schools have a higher number of children with unmet nutritional needs that impede school attendance and educational attainment. Hence, the need for targeted interventions such as EDUFOOD.

Speaking on the experience, the Marketing Lead at Zayith Yogurt, Umukoro Stephanie, described the outreach as both eye-opening and deeply fulfilling, noting that it was particularly impactful when experienced firsthand. She emphasized the importance of initiatives focused on children, describing them as one of the most delicate and important segments of society, and expressed appreciation for the partnership with the Lagos Food Bank.

EDUFOOD continues to strengthen the link between nutrition and education by ensuring children with the greatest need have access to nourishing meals during school days. Through strategic partnerships, the initiative expands its reach and impact, demonstrating the value of collective action in improving child welfare and educational outcomes.
