The Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) recently hosted students and staff of Temple College, Lagos, at its warehouse for an engaging day centered on service, awareness, and social responsibility. The visit provided the students with firsthand exposure to the realities of food insecurity and the structured efforts underway to address it.
From the moment they arrived, the atmosphere was energetic and purposeful. The Temple College delegation presented donated food items in support of ongoing programs, demonstrating a practical commitment to the cause even before the day’s activities began.
The visit featured an interactive orientation session introducing the students to LFBI’s mission, operational model, and community outreach initiatives. Team members walked them through the scale of hunger challenges faced by vulnerable families and children, particularly in underserved communities. The conversation quickly evolved into an open exchange, as students asked thoughtful questions about nutrition, logistics, sustainability, and how young people can contribute meaningfully to social causes.
Addressing the group, Dr. Michael Sunbola, Founder and Executive Director of LFBI, encouraged the students to view service not as a one-time activity, but as a mindset that shapes character and leadership. He emphasized that meaningful impact begins with awareness, compassion, and a willingness to act.
Beyond the presentations, the students toured the warehouse facility, gaining insight into the coordination, inventory systems, and volunteer collaboration required to distribute food assistance effectively. The highlight of the visit was the hands-on session where they joined volunteers in sorting and packaging food supplies for vulnerable households. Working side by side with the LFBI team allowed them to experience the discipline and teamwork behind every distribution effort.
The day wrapped up with reflections and group photographs, as several students shared how the experience broadened their perspective on community needs and inspired them to become more intentional about giving back.
LFBI remains committed to creating opportunities that connect young people to purposeful service. Temple College’s visit stands as another reminder that when education meets empathy, it cultivates socially conscious leaders ready to make a difference.
