On March 21, 2026, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) partnered with Punuka Foundation to deliver essential nutrition to neurodivergent individuals via the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in observance of Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
The outreach took place at the LFBI warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, where volunteers, staff, and Punuka Foundation representatives united to promote proper nutritional intake for neurodivergent individuals and their families in underserved Lagos communities. The day began with a warm welcome, followed by an insightful tour of the facilities to highlight the thoughtful processes behind the Food Bank’s programs. Volunteers and the Punuka Foundation team then engaged in hands-on packaging of nutritious boxes, carefully assembled with staples and essential food items to support neuro stability, focus, and overall development. This was followed by a briefing, group photos, and the heartfelt distribution.
The atmosphere radiated compassion and inclusion: gentle interactions with neurodivergent children and their parents, smiles of appreciation, and a deep sense of shared purpose in building a more equitable society where nutrition fosters dignity and growth for all.
Father Ari Jonah, a representative from Punuka Foundation, delivered moving remarks, expressing sincere appreciation to LFBI’s volunteers for their compassion, love for humanity, and unwavering commitment to inclusion. He highlighted their sensitivity in supporting neurodivergent children present alongside their families, underscoring the vital role of empathy in creating a caring, accessible world.
Dr. Michael Sunbola, Founder and Executive Director of LFBI, conveyed deep gratitude to Punuka Foundation for their thoughtful collaboration and for championing all-inclusive support during Neurodiversity Celebration Week. He praised the volunteers and team for their dedication in ensuring a dignified, impactful experience that honored every individual’s needs.
For beneficiaries, the packages provided more than nourishment. They offered stability, enhanced focus, and renewed hope for neurodivergent individuals and their households. The timely support reinforced that proper nutrition is foundational to well-being, development, and inclusion.
This outreach exemplifies LFBI’s mission to combat hunger and malnutrition through targeted programs like TEFAP, while celebrating diversity and equity. Punuka Foundation’s partnership stands as a powerful reminder that inclusive giving, rooted in understanding and care, nourishes not just bodies, but futures and communities as a whole.
