World NGO Day, observed globally every February 27 goes beyond a symbolic date. It is a meaningful reminder of the critical role non-governmental organizations play in building a more just, equitable, and compassionate society.
Beyond projects and statistics, NGOs embody something far more profound: hope in action. They are driven not only by funding, but by compassion; not only by systems, but by purpose; and not only by strategy, but by people, volunteers, partners, donors, and frontline workers who believe that positive change is possible.
In 2026, Lagos Food Bank Initiative marked this day with an impactful distribution to 7 partner NGOs through the Food Bank Network Nigeria program.
Distribution Highlights:
Maume Agbaosi, Program Officer at Food Bank Network Nigeria, welcomed the participating NGOs and spoke on the significance of World NGO Day and the organization’s vital role in addressing hunger across the country. She highlighted this year’s theme, “Celebrating Impact, Inspiring Action,” and commended the partner NGOs for their dedication and commitment to the shared goal of eradicating hunger in Nigeria.
Representatives from each NGO then introduced their organizations, sharing brief insights into their programs and the positive impact they continue to make in low-income communities. The first session featured a training led by Maume Agbaosi on Enhancing Fundraising Strategies. She emphasized that having a clear and well-defined fundraising strategy enhances organizational credibility and attracts partnerships from a wide range of stakeholders. The session was interactive with partner NGOs contributing perspectives from their respective organizations. This was followed by an informal networking session that allowed for social interaction and peer learning among the NGOs.
Dr. Michael Sunbola, Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, highlighted the collaborative nature of the distribution, noting that it represents a strong partnership between Food Bank Network Nigeria and beneficiary organizations. He commended the NGOs on the impactful work they do.
All beneficiary NGOs received 2 bags of Rice, 2 bags of Garri, 2 cartons of Noodles, and 10 bags of Welcome snacks. These supplies are intended to support community-level interventions and will be distributed by the NGOs to vulnerable households within their communities.
The event concluded with heartfelt messages from each participating NGO, expressing appreciation to Food Bank Network Nigeria for its consistent support, which has played a key role in sustaining their programs and extending their reach to more vulnerable communities.
