On December 30th, a shared commitment to improving maternal and child nutrition brought Lagos Food Bank Initiative and The Leadway Group together at the Lagos Food Bank Warehouse in Ikeja for a collaborative outreach under the Nutritious Meal Plan Intervention for Vulnerable Mothers and Children (NUMEPLAN) program.

NUMEPLAN is designed to address malnutrition among children under five, pregnant women, and lactating mothers through early nutritional support, regular growth monitoring, nutrition education, and the distribution of nutritious food items. The program plays a critical role in improving nutritional and health outcomes for vulnerable families while strengthening prevention-focused approaches to malnutrition.

Representatives of The Leadway Group were warmly received by caregivers and the dedicated volunteers who support the program every two weeks. These volunteers, many of whom are healthcare professionals, contribute their time and expertise to ensure caregivers receive accurate guidance and children’s growth is closely monitored.

During the outreach, the Nutrition Program Officer, Rilwan Oyedele, gave a brief introduction about NUMEPLAN after which the Executive Director/Founder of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, highlighted the impact and importance of early nutrition interventions. He emphasized that NUMEPLAN helps reduce the burden of child malnutrition on families and the healthcare system by supporting undernourished pregnant women and young children before complication arise. He also expressed appreciation to The Leadway Group and the volunteers for their continued commitment.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Niyi Abiola, Brand Manager of The Leadway Group, reiterated that adequate nutrition in early life is critical to enabling children to grow into individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society. Therefore, he commended Lagos Food Bank Initiative for its dedication to improving child survival and development.

The outreach ended with smiles, gratitude, and ignited hope from caregivers. A clear evidence of impact that strong partnerships and timely nutrition support can make.
