In a bid to promote equitable access to proper nutrition and improve the livelihoods of resilient households in Sagbokoji and Whala-Koji Communities in Lagos State, Lagos Food Bank Initiative will partner with Emmanuel Chapel to provide sustainable food support and empowerment through the Family Farming and TEFAP initiatives.
Set to take place on April 4, 2026, this impactful initiative will span for a period of six months, establishing urban backyard poultry farms in beneficiaries’ homes for consumption and enterprise, while providing staple foods for food-insecure households in these communities.
ABOUT SAGBOKOJI COMMUNITY:
Sagbokoji is a densely populated, underserved island community in the Amuwo-Odofin local government area of Lagos State, accessible by boat from Apapa, and CMS jetty, Lagos Island. It is home to roughly 30,000 residents who face significant challenges, including a lack of clean water, electricity, and limited healthcare access, often relying on one primary health center.
ABOUT WHALA-KOJI COMMUNITY:
Whala-Koji is a riverine community located in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State. It is one of the cluster villages located opposite the Tin-can Island Port in Apapa, located near other similar communities, including Sagbo Koji (the oldest/largest), Bishop Koji, Akoponawa, and Gandiekoji. It is largely a fishing community and is often characterized by high levels of deprivation, with residents having limited access to basic amenities.
ABOUT OUR PARTNER:
Emmanuel Chapel is a vibrant and welcoming Christian community located in Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. They are committed to glorifying God through worship, fostering spiritual growth, serving communities, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the world.
GOAL:
To improve food security and sustainable empowerment for a duration of six months in Sagbokoji and Whala-Koji communities.
OBJECTIVES:
- To distribute nutritious food items through the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
- To establish urban backyard poultry farms through Family Farming, for consumption and enterprise.
