Some celebrations go beyond cakes and candles; they become moments of compassion and community impact.

On March 11, 2026, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) had the privilege of partnering with actress and philanthropist Erica Nlewedim, who chose to mark her birthday through acts of service and compassion. In collaboration with Erica, LFBI delivered essential relief via the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to vulnerable women, families, and households facing food insecurity.

The day unfolded at the LFBI warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, where volunteers and beneficiaries gathered in anticipation of the day’s activities. Erica was warmly received and taken on a guided tour of the facility, gaining insight into the processes and coordination involved in preparing nutritious food boxes for vulnerable communities. Afterwards, she worked together with volunteers in hands-on service, packaging nutritious food boxes designed to provide immediate support and help sustain families in need.

Reflecting on the experience, Erica Nlewedim shared, “My birthday is in a couple of days, and I wanted to begin the celebration by giving back. Being here today and witnessing the work the Lagos Food Bank Initiative is doing to support vulnerable families has been truly inspiring.”

The atmosphere brimmed with energy and compassion as Erica brought incredible vibrancy, sharing smiles, laughter, and even joyful dance moments with volunteers and beneficiaries alike.

Dr. Michael Sunbola, Founder and Executive Director of LFBI, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Erica for choosing to celebrate in such a meaningful way. He also commended the volunteers for their dedication and the team members for ensuring a smooth and impactful experience.

For the beneficiaries, the support meant more than nourishment. It brought hope, stability, and a reminder that compassion endures. Many left with renewed encouragement, their faces reflecting quiet relief and appreciation for the timely support.

This outreach beautifully embodies LFBI’s mission to combat hunger and malnutrition through targeted programs like TEFAP, while showing how personal milestones can become powerful opportunities for community upliftment. Erica Nlewedim’s choice to celebrate by standing with vulnerable families stands as an inspiring reminder: the most profound joy comes from touching lives and sharing kindness.
