On Thursday, 4th September 2025, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) had the privilege of partnering with Nnennaya Fakoya-Smith as she celebrated her 40th birthday in a truly remarkable way — by giving back to those who need it most.
Instead of marking her milestone birthday with the usual festivities, Nnennaya chose to dedicate the day to empowering vulnerable widows in underserved communities. Through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), she provided beneficiaries with staple food items, essential relief packages, and decent clothing — enough to sustain a family of five for up to three weeks.
With smiles, gratitude, and a strong sense of community, the widows received much more than material support; they felt seen, valued, and celebrated. Nnennaya shared that her 40th birthday was not just about marking years of life but about “impacting lives and restoring dignity to women who often shoulder the toughest burdens.”
The outreach underscored LFBI’s ongoing commitment to serving marginalized groups while also highlighting how individual acts of kindness can ripple into collective transformation. By choosing to celebrate her birthday in this way, Nnennaya has set a shining example of how personal milestones can be turned into opportunities to fight hunger and strengthen communities.
The Lagos Food Bank, represented by the Executive Director and Founder, Dr. Michael Sunbola, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Nnennaya Fakoya-Smith for her generosity, compassion, and commitment to social impact. Her 40th birthday celebration will be remembered as a powerful reminder that true joy comes from giving.
