In honor of International Widows Day, KPMG and Lagos Food Bank Initiative collaborated on the 2nd of July, 2025, to cater to struggling widows and their respective families in underserved communities across Lagos state, through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) initiative of the nonprofit organization.

Taking place at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, representatives of the partner organization showed up in good numbers to engage in corporate volunteering activities as they packaged the food boxes with compassion, before eventually handing the boxes of nourishment to the beneficiaries of the day.

The CSR Lead of KPMG, Adenike Yomi-Faseun, expressed her delight in the impact partnership with the Food Bank, seeing how coordinated the activities of the day were, which started with a warm welcome of the partners by the Food Bank team and volunteers, followed by a tour of the organizations facility. She highlighted the significance of their organization’s CSR initiative which led to honoring the international day of observance to recognize the strengths of widows in society, and support them amidst their many challenges. Impressed by the turn out of volunteers for community support, she encouraged them as young people to keep showing up for those in need as a secret to changing society and making our world a better place.

In his heartfelt address to attendees, the Executive Director and Founder of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, expressed profound gratitude to the partner of the day for their timely and impactful support in reaching families in urgent need. He described their commitment as a shining beacon of hope to underserved communities, especially in these challenging times. Dr. Sunbola also lauded the remarkable dedication of the volunteers who, despite their respective schedules in their daily activities, made out time to show up in impressive numbers to extend care and compassion to widows, who received their much-needed “boxes of hope” with dignity and relief.

The outreach was a massive success, undoubtedly putting smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries for the support and care received. With a sense of fulfillment and obligation, the partners of the day expressed their satisfaction during their testimonials with the Food Bank’s media team at a well organized outreach program, and highlighted future collaborations with the Food Bank, while also encouraging more corporate organizations to key into the vision and mission of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative to create a hunger-free society for all through impactful programs that target various vulnerable groups in society.
