When Aderonke arrived at the community outreach in Ibadan with her daughter, she was carrying more than the usual worries of a mother. She was carrying the responsibility of making sure there would be enough food at home.

Like many families who gathered that day, she had come seeking support through the Lagos Food Bank Initiative’s Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).

For Aderonke, the food box she received was more than a collection of essential staples. It meant relief. It meant having food to take home for her daughter and one less immediate worry to carry.

Her story reflects the experience of many families who find themselves struggling to keep up with the rising cost of food. For households already living on limited incomes, an unexpected expense or a difficult month can quickly turn the question of what to eat into a daily concern.

At the Ibadan outreach, supported by Sun King, families received food assistance while employees joined LFBI staff and volunteers in making the distribution possible. They helped turn resources into something tangible: food placed directly into the hands of people who needed it.

Behind every box is therefore a chain of people choosing to care. Partners provide resources. Volunteers give their time. LFBI coordinates the process and takes support into communities where it can make a difference.

But the impact is ultimately measured in moments like Aderonke’s.

A mother returning home with food for her child. A household with a little more breathing room. A family reminded that, even during difficult times, they have not been forgotten.

A food box cannot solve every challenge a family faces. But when it arrives at the right time, it can ease a burden, provide nourishment, and restore a little hope.
