When Habibat, a 28-year-old mother, welcomed her twin babies, joy quickly gave way to worry, as the reality of food insecurity exposed the malnourished state of her bundles of joy. Providing enough nutritious food for herself while caring for two newborns became an overwhelming challenge. Like many vulnerable mothers enrolled in the Lagos Food Bank Initiative’s Nutritious Meal Plan Intervention for Vulnerable Mothers and Children (NUMEPLAN), she was determined to give her children the best start in life, but limited resources made every day a struggle.

Through NUMEPLAN, a reference she got from her Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) in Ejigbo, she received nutritious food support and counseling to aid her recovery and improve her babies’ nutritional wellbeing. Yet another challenge remained; keeping her twins clothed, warm, and comfortable as they grew, especially in the rainy season that brought unprecedented heavy downpours.

That is where Cloth Banking Nigeria (CBN) made a meaningful difference.

Her twins received gently used baby clothing, accessories, and toys, providing their mother with much-needed relief from an expense she could not easily afford. What may have seemed like a simple donation became a powerful act of kindness, allowing her to redirect limited resources toward other essential needs while ensuring her babies were cared for with dignity.

At CBN, every donated garment carries more than fabric; it carries compassion, restores dignity, and reminds vulnerable families that they are not alone. By giving preloved clothing a second life, the program helps protect children, ease financial burdens on caregivers, and extend hope to families navigating difficult circumstances.

Because sometimes, a fresh start begins with something as simple as a tiny outfit that fits, comforts, and reminds a mother that someone cares.
