Wednesday 19th June, 2024 was indeed a spectacular day for the beneficiaries of the Family Farming program as they received starter materials to kickstart their poultry farms and also food relief boxes to support their nutritional needs which will sustain a family of 5 for one month.
The outreach kick started with a refresher course for the beneficiaries on poultry farming by the program’s officer Justina George to ensure the women had adequate knowledge of all aspects of poultry production. Addressing the beneficiaries, a representative from Mavins Ms. Tomisin stated that the initiative to give back was to celebrate the birthday of Ayra Starr, an award winning musician of Mavins record.
At Agege community, the Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, stated the outreach was tailored to meet their immediate short and long term needs of the beneficiaries. He also noted that the intervention is crucial especially in the current economic realities where families are struggling to feed as their disposable income has depleted. He appreciated the partners – Mavins Records for the timely partnership and hopes for more of such partnerships within the entertainment industry.
Also another representative from Mavins Records, Ireoluwa Giwa-Osagie stated “that he was overwhelmed with the magnitude of the outreach and the impact it would have on the beneficiaries. He commended the food bank for putting together the initiative as it would go a long way for the beneficiaries.”
The beneficiaries each received their materials and were assisted by volunteers to set up in their respective homes. Mrs Omojoye, a hairstylist, appreciated the food bank and the partners for the support she received since she enrolled as a beneficiary and attended the training. She stated “that empowerment was beneficial as it gives her another source of income to sustain her family.”
