It was another landmark on Sunday, 26th March, 2023 as Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) and Mars Wrigley Nigeria took the fight against hunger to Ebute-Metta Community to commemorate the 2023 Ramadan season. The outreach kicked off with distributions at the food bank warehouse and in Ebute Metta community.
Ebute-Metta is a neighborhood of Lagos Mainland, located in the Lagos Mainland Local Government Area which is a local government having several communities under it including Yaba, etc. where the Lagos State College of Technology, popularly known as YABATECH was established.
All boxes containing food relief and personal care items were distributed to beneficiaries who converged in front of the LFBI warehouse before proceeding to Ebute-Meta Community. The Mars Wrigley Nigeria team who were present at the food bank warehouse participated in the distribution as a part of their contribution to ensuring successful outreach.
Also present was the President of LFBI, Dr. Michael Sunbola who during his opening speech appreciated the partners for their pro-activeness in this fasting season and called for more partnerships with other organizations to ensure SDGs 2 – Zero Hunger is achieved.
The team of volunteers swung into action as they ensured all items needed for the outreach were off-loaded to the designated location for the outreach. One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Amusan described how current food and cash scarcity had been hard on her family and was grateful to the organizations for helping her during this fasting season. She said “Now i will not worry about what to cook for Iftar and Suhoor”.
The goal of the outreach was accomplished successfully with effective coordination of activities to which the beneficiaries of the day showered the organization with prayers.
