FEEDING THE FUTURE WITH TONIC TECHNOLOGIES

On Thursday, November 28th, Lagos Food Bank Initiative in collaboration with Tonic Technologies, brought hope and nourishment to school children in Dopemu and Agege communities through the Education Enhancement Intervention for Food-insecure Students (EDUFOOD) program. The outreach aimed to support the children’s nutrition while also nurturing their intellectual growth, creating a day filled with meaningful engagement and care.

The morning of the outreach was filled with enthusiasm and commitment, as volunteers worked tirelessly to package food plates, ensuring everything was ready for the children. A key moment of the outreach was a debate session organized by the Tonic Technologies team, which sparked excitement among the students. The topic, “Has Technology Improved the Quality of Education?” inspired thoughtful discussions as the children passionately presented arguments for and against the motion. This activity encouraged critical thinking and public speaking and instilled confidence in the students as they embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

Maryam, representing the Tonic Technologies team, encouraged the young students to remain focused on school activities, emphasizing the importance of education in shaping their future, urging them to work hard and strive for excellence regardless of their socio-economic background.

Adeola, a 12-year-old participant, shared her thoughts after the debate: “I loved speaking in the debate! It made me think in a new way, and now I feel more confident about sharing my ideas with others.” The session was a testament to the children’s potential and their eagerness to learn when given the right opportunities.

After the debate, participants were presented with gifts as a token of appreciation for their effort and enthusiasm. This was followed by the much-anticipated meal distribution. Plates filled with nourishing food, accompanied with fruits, brought smiles to the children’s faces.

Reflecting on the outreach, Sola from the Tonic Technologies team said, “The children’s excitement and eagerness to learn were truly heartwarming. Each time, partnering with the Lagos Food Bank is usually an incredible experience. Together, we’ve not only fed hungry children but also inspired them to think critically and believe in themselves. This is what true impact looks like.”

This outreach reaffirmed Lagos Food Bank’s commitment to combating hunger and fostering educational development in low-income schools.
