Tuesday, September 24th 2024, was a remarkable day of generosity and compassion, highlighted by the partnership between Lagos Food Bank Initiative and Cardtonic (Tonic Technologies). Both organizations collaborated to implement the EDUFOOD initiative – an intervention designed to reduce absenteeism and enhance cognitive performance by providing nutritious meals to food-insecure school children.
The event kicked off with an engaging talk on personal hygiene, led by dedicated food bank volunteers who are health professionals. This informative lecture included a practical demonstration of proper handwashing techniques, ensuring that the students understand the importance of personal health and hygiene. Each school received personal care items (soap and hand sanitizers), equipping them with essential tools for staying healthy.
The day culminated in a joyous meal distribution, and the excitement on the children’s faces was heartwarming. “By investing in the health and well-being of children, we are laying the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future for all,” a member of the Cardtonic team said, during her testimonial with the food bank media team. This collaboration not only nourished the children, it also fostered a sense of community and support, making it a day to remember for the beneficiaries and partner organization.
Lagos Food Bank Initiative remains committed to building resilient communities through strategic nutrition and sustainable interventions that seek to improve the general well-being and livelihood of vulnerable individuals and families residing in low-income communities.
